Both birthstones for the month of November are happy, vibrant, colourful gemstones and they can even be mistaken for one another: Citrine and Topaz.
Citrine is a Quartz variety and its colour is yellow to dark and saturated orangy-yellow. This gemstone is well-loved in the esoteric community as it is known for carrying the power of the sun and being an exceedingly beneficial stone.
Citrine can be found in Bolivia, Brazil and Spain. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 7, which offers good wearability at a moderate price.
The other birthstone for November is Topaz, which is sometimes confused with Citrine because of its similarity in colour. But Topaz also comes in a variety of blues, browns, clear, reddish-pink, and green. One of the most expensive colour is Imperial Topaz, a medium reddish-orange colour that is quite spectacular.
Topaz’s vibrant energy brings joy, abundance, and good health. Just looking at a pretty Topaz makes one feel happy!
Topaz can be found in Australia, Brazil, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, Namibia, Sri Lanka, and the United States, to name a few.
Although Topaz is a hard stone, 8 on the Mohs scale, it can have cleavage which means it can chip or crack, so you need to be a little extra careful when wearing this gemstone.
Both Citrine and Topaz can be cleaned with warm, soapy water. High heat or sudden temperature changes can cause internal breaks in Topaz so avoid using ultrasonic and steam cleaners.
